Bill's Bar in the heart of Oakham have made the decision to host a screening of HM Queen Elizabeth's funeral live on Monday the 19th of September 2022.

This follows the decision from Jenni, owner of Rutland Refill, to open up the shop that day to host a cream tea screening of the event for 'what you feel or can pay' donations.

On top of this, Oakham Baptist Church are hosting a free family screening following their 9:30am toddler group.

The Bill's Bar team posted on their social media: "As one of the only places in town with a large screen we have had several requests for us to open. Now we understand both sides to the conversation around whether we should or should not be open. However we have made a decision that we will be open for the community to come down and pay their respects and watch the funeral across all of our screens should they choose to.

"With this said we are adamant we do not want people to think this is a business decision; we will be allowing people to bring their own drinks in before 4pm on Monday, the 19th of September. The bar will also be open as usual for those that do you want to purchase pints, cocktails et cetera."

The funeral will take place on Monday the 19th of September at 11am at Westminster Abbey and is expected to be one of the most watched televised events of the last decade.

Will you be watching at home, with the local community, or not at all?
