Cannabis found during police stop search in Oakham

By The Editor 26th Nov 2021

Fourteen bags of cannabis were recovered during a stop search in Oakham this evening (Sunday).

PC Joe Lloyd, beat officer for Oakham and Barleythorpe, stopped a young man in the town he recognised thanks to information from the public.

He told Oakham Nub News: "As a result of information provided by members of the public I had grounds to carry out a stop search.

"I recognised the young gentleman from information I had received and recovered cannabis valued at around £200."

The man has been interviewed and enquiries are ongoing.

PC Lloyd has been spearheading a local initiative to identify young people connected with drugs - and to divert them from using - since September.

He has already carried out a number of other successful stop searches.

Anyone with any drug-related information can contact PC Lloyd by using the reporting tool on the Leicestershire Police website, calling 101 or by using Crime Stoppers.
