Girl Guides in Rutland hope a teddy bear trail will help promote businesses in Oakham and Uppingham as well as attract new members.

Some 20 teddy bears are to be hidden around the shops of the two towns as part of the joint promotion.

The guides have 20 units in Rutland and so together they will be using 20 bears in Oakham town for 2 weeks, then 2 further weeks in Uppingham

Each bear has a clue and people are asked to collect the clues to help win a £20 Amazon voucher.

They can them email the final phrase to [email protected], and remembering to post selfies on the Rutland Guiding Facebook page as they find all the Girl Guiding Bears.

Nichola Resoli Leader in charge of 1st Barleythorpe Brownies told Nub News: "Hopefully families will get involved and people will come back to their local shops.

"While discovering Girl Guiding is still very much active and there for every girl!"

The Discover Girl Guiding Bear Trail is on in Oakham from July 27 to August 9.

In Uppingham it runs during August 10 to August 23.

Nicola said: "Girl Guiding through lock down instantly adapted offering Zoom meetings and monthly packs to Girls all over Rutland.

"Meetings have included everything from home made teddy bear zip wires, to chocolate tasting. We have had meetings on aerodynamics, resilience, black lives matters as well as crafts and singing intertwined, all of the variety of Guiding just in a different way.

"Girl Guiding continues to adapt and we hope that as the risks of face to face meeting decrease we will be able to return to face to face meeting but until then we continue to have amazing fun and giggles, this month we are even having an at home Water Camp."

Nicola added: "Girl Guiding Rutland want to do there bit to serve the community, encouraging people to have a mini adventure and visit there local shops. We hope people have fun while discovering Girl Guiding is still very much active and there for every girl.

"Girl Guiding for me has given me a weekly mile stone even in lock down to connect with the Brownies and give a little bit of normal to each girl.

"Parents have enjoyed the hour of entertainment for their girl but have had a greater understanding of how much we can do in an hour and the fun everyone has within Girl Guiding."
