Almost 50,000 Covid vaccines have been given across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland this week.

This week's jabs mean that 342,885 injections have been given so far in the area – 331,828 first doses and just over 11,000 second.

The overall total has increased by 48,452 since the last update. Doses counted were given in the seven days before February 28.

More jabs were given since the latest update, than the previous when 39,491 were administered.

The number of people who have received their first dose by age group is:

Over 80s: 50,814

75-79: 37,915

70-74: 52,226

65-69: 49,148

Under 65: 141,725

For reference, last week's totals were:

Over 80s: 50,568

75-79: 37,728

70-74: 21,768

65-69: 44,770

Under 65: 102,657

Letters were this week sent out to 60-65-year-olds inviting them to book appointments.

The Prime Minister pledged jabs to all adults by the end of July before he revealed his roadmap last week.

A large proportion of the under 65 cohort in the figures released will be health and social care workers, but that age group in particular is likley to increase quickly over the next few weeks as the effort to vaccinate all over 50s by mid-April picks up pace.

Second doses will also likely increase over the course of the next few updates as many patients near 12-weeks since their first dose.
