Rutland County Council will hold a virtual meeting on Monday 29 June to allocate Elected Members to a number of key positions for the 2020/21 council year.

Rutland's latest Annual Council meeting was due to take place in May, before it was postponed due to the impacts of COVID-19.

The meeting will elect a Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Council for the next 12 months, as well as appointing individual councillors to important positions on various committees and scrutiny panels.

Following the appointments, Members will be asked to agree a proposed schedule of meetings for the next 12 months, including future dates for Full Council, Cabinet and other statutory Committees.

Members will also be asked to approve Mark Andrews as Rutland County Council's Interim Chief Executive Officer for a period of 12 months, following confirmation that current Chief Executive Helen Briggs will retire from her role at the end of July. Mr Andrews is the Council's Deputy Chief Executive and Strategic Director for People Services.

Coun Oliver Hemsley, Leader of Rutland County Council, said: "This year's Annual Council looks a lot different to the same meeting held a little over 12 months ago.

"COVID-19 has had a dramatic impact and we are continuing to do all we can to support individuals, businesses and communities who remain affected by the virus.

"The government is easing lockdown measures but the extra work and responsibilities absorbed by local councils because of the pandemic has not gone away.

"All of this work must continue alongside the day-to-day running of services and the delivery of our statutory duties. It's therefore important that we move ahead with our Annual Council meeting – to agree the structure and key roles that are needed to carry on with all that we are doing."

Rutland's virtual Annual Council meeting will take place at 6pm on Monday 29 June. Members of the public can watch the meeting online or listen by phone, with further details about how to join available at: www.rutland.gov.uk/meetings.
