Rutland and Melton MP Alicia Kearns has urged people to support their hospitality sector, including pubs and tourism ventures.

Her comments come as Prime Minister Boris Johnson yesterday announced a raft of changes to the lockdown which should lead to the re-opening of the tourism sector on July 4.

As part of the careful easing of restrictions announced by the Prime Minister earlier this week, from Saturday July 4th pubs, restaurants, hotels, B&Bs, leisure facilities and many attractions will be able to reopen provided COVID-Secure guidelines are followed.

Some 555 businesses in Rutland and Melton will benefit, according to the MP, who has published a Q&A on the changes announced yesterday on her website.

During the pandemic Ms Kearns helped Rutland and Melton's pub industry, by leading cross-Party efforts to secure support for tenants of the Wellington Pub Company and taking on Britain's largest pub landlord, Ei and Stonegate, to secure support for local Ei establishments.

Following an extremely challenging three months for the tourism and hospitality sectors, the MP is urging people to show their support for these businesses to help them bounce back.

The Government will be publishing detailed guidance to help tourist attractions and accommodation venues to re-open safely, such as by social distancing and cleaning protocols.

A new industry standard will also be introduced by Visit England, so that the public can easily see if the venue is carrying out the new rules.

Ms Kearns commented: " After our country's immense national effort to control and battle COVID-19, I am delighted that people will be able to safely take a much needed holiday and enjoy everything our beautiful communities have to offer. The re-opening of these industries is vital for our local economies."
