Coronavirus crisis: No Birdfair at Rutland Water this year

5th Mar 2021 | Local News

The popular Birdfair event at Rutland Water Nature Reserve has been cancelled again.

The organisers made the announcement, perhaps appropriately, in a tweet yesterday.

They also explained on their website: "We regret to announce that due to the continuation of COVID restrictions deeply impacting UK and international travel, public health and the safety of our visitors and exhibitors, we have decided not to host Birdfair at Rutland Water Nature Reserve this year.

"Birdfair is the leading conservation event across the globe. We are now putting our energies into exploring the possibilities for 2022.

"We will make a more detailed announcement in May 2021."

Following the cancellation of last year's event, also due to the pandemic, a virtual alternative was organised.

Birdfair has been a popular annual event for around 30 years.

The cancellation of Birdfair this week comes as the Rutland County Show announced it was being altered to the Rutland Food and Farming Festival, with a later opening, as reported by Nub News.
