Don't forget to have your say on how Rutland looks
By The Editor 5th Mar 2021
Time is running out for Rutlanders to have their say on the appearance of future homes and housing development.
Rutland County Council and South Kesteven District Council are working together on consultation on new Draft Design Guidelines.
The design guidelines, which cover both Rutland and South Kesteven, aim to help improve the quality of new build developments in the area by setting out each Council's high design expectations and detailing the steps that must be taken for anyone wishing to apply for planning permission.
The guidance will also be used to assist with the assessment of development proposals.
The Design Guide covers all types of development, including large residential developments, commercial schemes and household extensions and is a crucial guide for the future development plans in the local area.
The work is being funded by a special grant awarded by the Government to Rutland and South Kesteven on the basis that plans would be developed jointly between the two Councils. Rutland County Council is encouraging residents and businesses to get involved in designing the document – a final version of which will be published specifically for Rutland. Councillor Oliver Hemsley, Leader of Rutland County Council and Portfolio Holder for Planning, said: "The Design Guide that's being developed for Rutland will play an important role in setting the standard for future developments and determining planning applications in the county.
