Coronavirus crisis: Record rise in confirmed Rutland cases

Rutland has recorded it's largest-ever increase in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the county.

Figures released by NHS England this afternoon said the county now has 18 cases where people have been tested positive with the virus.

The increase of three, from the 15 reported yesterday, follows an increase of two the day before.

The official government figures place Rutland at the bottom of county league tables for case numbers by a long way.

As regularly reported on Nub News , the figures are based on where the patients come from, not the hospital where they are treated.

As health officials accept, the actual number of cases will be higher as they do not include people with the virus at home or in care homes.

Meanwhile, the number of deaths from people with coronavirus in Lincolnshire increased by one today, bringing the total to 92.

The single fatality comes as the nationwide figure increased by 813 to exceed 20,000, rising to 20,319.

The United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust, which runs hospitals at Grantham, Boston, Lincoln and Louth, said the latest victim was a 97-year-old woman with pre-existing conditions.

Nationally, 148,377 have been tested positive with the virus, according to official government figures, an increase of 4,913 on yesterday.

Lincolnshire saw an increase of 23 cases from 725 to 748.

Leicestershire saw an increase of 19 to 821.

North East Lincolnshire increased from 114 to 123.

North Lincolnshire increased from 257 to 280.

Peterborough increased from 185 to 188.

The North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, which runs hospitals at Stamford, Peterborough City and Hinchingbrooke, did not issue any updates today.
