With all racing cancelled due to the pandemic, Rutland motor racing driver Teddy Wilson is putting his virtual racing skills to the test instead.

This evening, 18-year-old Teddy will race the famous

Imola GP Circuit in Round 1 of the four-round Custom Racewear iRacing F3 Championship.

The Championship has been organised by Leicester racewear company Custom Racewear and will

feature emerging young British and International drivers.

Teddy, of North Luffenham, said, "These days simulator racing is a necessary part of preparation and training for any driver. However, the lockdown has taken this to another level enabling us to do what we love and race in safety when real circuits are out of bounds.

"This Championship will enable me to compete

against a high-class field of up-and-coming drivers from different motorsport disciplines who I might

not normally get to race in real life."

Each round of the Custom Racewear F3 iRacing Championship will feature two races, with warm-up

and qualification starting at 7pm.

Race 1 is a 12-minute sprint race with 'lights out' at 7.30pm. Race 2 gets underway at 8.10pm and will be a 20-minute feature race with a reverse grid of the top 10 from Race 1.

Live coverage of the Championship, with commentary by Jake Sanson and Alex Goldschmidt, can be watched on @downforceracinguk YouTube channel and Facebook page.

"I am looking forward to racing at the legendary Imola race circuit, albeit virtually and not in real life. Sim racing requires a high level of precision so putting this to the test on this technical track should be a challenge but fun. With other fast drivers on the grid, it will make for some great racing,"

explains Teddy.

Teddy's virtual F3 racing car and race suit livery will feature local sponsors Safe Products Ltd, Versatile Venues Ltd, Blue Ice Media Ltd and C S Ellis Group Ltd and racewear brands Walero and Custom Racewear for whom he is an ambassador.

Further rounds will take place on the Silverstone GP circuit on Saturday May 23, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Saturday June 6 and Circuit Park Zandvoort GP on Saturday June 13.

Ben Bishop, Director of Custom Racewear, said: "Given the difficult circumstances we are all facing as individuals and businesses, we wanted to somehow stay connected and engaged with our community and customers.

"Sim racing/Esports was the obvious choice. It means we can go racing but in the safety of our home environment. It's also a way of giving something back."
