Council confirms increased tariffs in Rutland car parks
By Grace Kennington 3rd Mar 2026
Rutland County Council has announced changes to parking tariffs in the off-street council managed car parks in Oakham and Uppingham, increasing hourly, weekly and season ticket costs.
According to the authority, they had to make changes to car parking costs to help cover the cost of maintaining, managing and improving car parks.
In a statement published by Rutland County Council, the authority said 'designed to balance the needs of residents, visitors and local businesses, while ensuring that the service remains fit for purpose and financially stable.'
The following changes apply to all off-street council-managed car parks in Oakham and Uppingham:
- The 'up to six hour' tariff has removed,
- Season ticket prices and long stay rolling tariffs have been updated,
- A more flexible 'up to two hour' tariff has been added
- Free parking for up to 30 minutes will remain, with no return on the same day,
- Free parking for Blue Badge holders for up to three hours will also remain,
- Motor cycles can park free of charge in spaces specifically for motorbikes, but will have to pay usual parking charges if parked in a standard car parking space

According to Cllr Christine Wise, Portfolio Holder for Transport, Environment and Communities, said: 'These revised parking arrangements have been carefully considered to strike the right balance between supporting our town centres and ensuring we can continue to maintain and improve our parking facilities.
'We know how important short stay parking is for local shops and services, which is why free 30-minute parking remains in place, alongside continued offers for Blue Badge holders.'
The tariff changes started from 2 March.
