Council issues guide on how to find family fun in Rutland

Families in Rutland can find out what activities and events are on offer for children and young people throughout the summer, thanks to a helpful new guide, produced by Rutland County Council.

The Council's Culture and Leisure Services have joined with services for children and young people to provide a comprehensive offer for local families over the summer holiday period.

Recognising the challenges that many families are likely to face this summer, with some COVID-19 restrictions still in place, disruption to foreign travel and general anxiety about how to keep children entertained at home, the guide has been created as a handy source of information about a variety of summer activities.

Councillor Lucy Stephenson, Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure at Rutland County Council, said: "This is an unusual summer for parents and children. Lots of families will be holidaying at home during August, because of uncertainty around international travel, while many of the activities that would normally take place during the summer break have been scaled back or cancelled.

"For anyone struggling to find ways to keep children entertained, there are lots of things still to do here in Rutland and plenty of online activities, from music and crafts to reading and home science. We hope our summer guide will be both helpful and enjoyable for families."

Rutland's summer 2020 guide contains information about activities being provided by numerous local services, including:

Online author events organised by Rutland Libraries

Kitchen science experiments with Visions Children's Centre

Aiming High activities for children with special educational needs and disabilities

Interactive history and online crafts with Oakham Castle

Home fitness activities from Active Rutland
