Oakham McDonald's: Council planning officers' recommendation

6th Jan 2020 | Local News

Rutland County Council planning officers are recommending that the application submitted by McDonalds to build a new fast-food restaurant in Oakham should be approved.

More than seven months after being submitted by the chain, the council's planning and licensing committee will consider the application on Tuesday (14 Jan).

A report to the committee published online today states: "The proposed development would be sited on land allocated for employment uses.

"The proposed development is considered acceptable. It would not have an adverse impact on neighbouring residential amenities and/or the character of the surrounding

area.

"This application is being reported to the committee as the proposed development would be contrary to Adopted Local Plan Policies and represent a departure from the Adopted Local Plan, however the proposals would provide an

employment generating use on the site.

"Off street car parking would comply with the council's adopted standards."

While the council's planning officers have recommended giving the scheme the green light, the final decision lies with members of the planning and licensing committee.

Tuesday's meeting is being held in public and will take place in the main Council Chamber at Rutland County Council's Catmose offices, starting at 6.00pm.

The agenda and reports for the meeting are now published online and can be viewed by clicking the red button below.

If approved, the Oakham McDonald's restaurant with drive-thru and parking - planned for a large area of underdeveloped land at Hawkesmead Business Estate, off Lands End Way - will be the first in Rutland.

The proposed restaurant would create at least 65 new jobs.
