Oakham South Ward holder, Councillor Raymond Payne, has shared his 'great honour' of representing the Oakham South residents at the Act of Remembrance on Friday the 11th of November 2022.

Councillor Ray Payne, a Liberal Democrat Councillor representing Oakham South, was elected in June of this year. Read more here.

He has been a vocal member of Rutland County Council since his election, bringing to the forefront issues such as NHS poverty, and highlighting ways in which residents can make the most of provisions from Rutland County Council. Most recent of these are the 'Warm Hubs' opening at Rutland libraries during the winter months.

Now, he is sharing his 'honour' at representing Oakham South residents this Remembrance weekend.

Cllr Ray Payne said: "I had the great honour of representing the residents of Oakham South at the Act of Remembrance that was held on Friday morning at Oakham Castle. It was a very simple but moving service and was attended by the Lord Lieutenant, representatives of the Armed Forces, Military Cadets, British Legion, local Church figures, Ex-service personnel, RCC councillors and a large number of members of the public.

"I was especially pleased to see a number of our local school students in attendance, I have always believed that each new generation needs to be included in these ceremonies if they are to learn the importance of these events and the sacrifices that were made by those who came before them."
