Django in the Bay is back in Rutland this May 2024.

From 24 to 26 May, Django in the Bay will be back for a weekend of music celebrating Django Reinhardt.

Jean Reinhardt, known by his Romani nickname Django, was a Romani-Belgian jazz guitarist and composer. The gypsy jazz icon is celebrated annually at the Rutland Water festival, which launched last year and saw lovers of jazz attend from across the country.

Hosted by Natalia Douglas, a Rutland-based musician, the event welcomes a range of artists, activities, food and drinks suppliers and much more to the three day event.

Attendees can enjoy:

  • a weekend camping ticket - with views over Rutland Water
  • on site parking
  • a beautiful location in the centre of England
  • food and drinks stalls run by independent sellers
  • use of toilets and shower facilities
  • community spirit
  • live music from a range of musicians

A number of musicians have been confirmed for the event, including gypsy jazz giants, Stochelo Rosenberg and Paulus Schäfer. the Gismo Graf Trio all the way from Germany, Adrien Tarraga & The London Django collective, the young but 'dazzling' Hugo Guezbar Trio and the Harry Diplock Trio.

Food and Drink will also be available. The regular cafés located in the bay will be serving hot drinks all day, and pizza and other street food vans will be in attendance. A festival shop will also be set up, allowing camping visitors to stock up on essentials.

Finally, a bar serving award-winning beer from Shiny Brewery and local cider from the Manton Hollow Cidery will be in attendance to keep the party going.

A new Luthier's spot will be set up near the bar with some of the top instrument-makers in the country showing their wares.

The team said: "This is THE place to connect with fellow Django musicians, jam, hang out, try guitars before you buy, take a workshop or masterclass and of course watch amazing concerts.

"And for those who don't play, there isn't a better setting to enjoy this wonderful music. Enjoy good food and drink and walk around the site soaking up the magical atmosphere."

Tickets and further information is available online. Last year, the team sold discounted tickets for those with an LE15 postcode.
