David Cadman has sent his thanks to all involved in the 70 mile Rutland Water Triathlon, which took place on the 16th, 17th and 18th of July 2022.

The event raised well over £4500 for the RNLI, the Air Ambulance, and for Rutland's own Sailability.

David decided to host the event, which took place from Rutland Sailing Club, in support of the three charities as a part of his 70th birthday celebrations.

David wrote:

Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou! – We raised £4817.03 for 3 brilliant charities

We did it, despite Soaring temperature for the walking, rain & sun cycling & torrential rain with a beautiful sun rise for the sailing, the task was completed by a fabulous team of volunteers.

Special thanks to the teams that took part, Vicky & friends from International Platforms, Kevin & friends from  K Oakes Roofing,  Conleth from Universal Platformas,  Mark from Yardbourne & Friends Alan & Jenny Jobburn. The stars of the show were Jade, who despite a fall & the wrong shoes, completed, on the first day, the 12 miles walk, with true grit & determination in the hot sun.

Jamie who cycled his old push bike 26 miles, Mark who ran & push biked, more of the course than needed, Anna, who sailed Bills boat for the first time, better than him, Austin Ross who at 6 years old did a quarter of the lake cycle ride on his heavy small wheeled bike & Jacks the dog who in very hot conditions did the whole walk on the lead. With a special mention to Rob, who with his BBQ, he provided the bacon butties for many breakfasts. Thank you all.

Special thanks go to the people who helped me organise this successful event:

Sailing - Liz, Cruiser fleet Secretary, gave me tremendous support, liaising with everyone at the club, making the night sail come together, we could not have done it without you. Special thanks to Jenny & Andrew for manning the tower all night, Pete for manning the safety boat & of course Bill for organising the course, lights, teams & helping the night sail work in his usual brilliant way. Thank you to all the boat captains for allowing us on board, everyone who took part enjoyed the experience despite the weather.

Walking & Cycling - Thank you to Gordon & Phil for making these 2 events happen safely, for providing the transport / taxi service & the guidance we needed. Gordon was the man who helped me, personally get through this challenge as always he was brilliant. Special thanks must go to Alan & Jenny who completed the walking course & kept helping till the end.

Thanks must also go to all at the Rutland Sailing Club, for letting the event happen Geoff O Donavan & Guy Hodges for their support. Jenny Rollings (Charnia catering)Stuart Bickerton (Marketing at the mill) for the logo & printing, Leigh Sparrow for his article in Verikal, Matt from Terrex for suppling the safety vests with the logo & Jon from Snorkel for the safety vests worn by the organisers, thanks to Rutland & Stanford Sound for the coverage of the event & for starting the walk with us.

A special mention must go to Evie Payne for her articles. Evie has helped push this event from the start & has been supportive despite her father Mike's serious illness. Thank you Evie.
