An elderly couple witnessed their own home being burgled as the husband was held by one of the intruders.

Oakham Police say the aggravated residential burglary happened around 8pm on Saturday night.

The couple were at home when two men entered their house in Newtown Crescent.

During the ordeal, the elderly male was held causing slight injuries while the second man searched rooms upstairs.

Both men then left but it is not known if anything was stolen.

One suspect is decribed as late 20's, white, wearing a distinctive black hooded jacket with gold writing and a diagonal stripe.

Oakham Police ask if anyone saw anyone answering this description at the time and place stated, or knows anyone who wears such a jacket, to contact them on 101 leaving your information for DC Louise Osborne quoting Cr Ref 21*063693.
