For the third year running, Harington School's student-built electric vehicles have qualified for the Greenpower International Finals.

Greenpower is an initiative to inspire young people to excel in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths by setting them the challenge to build and race an electric car. This charity hopes to unlock the potential of young people and spark enthusiasm for STEM subjects through this engaging and exciting event.

Vector, a 'kit car' that has been refined over the last three years, was a huge success at Blyton Park Circuit. Driver Will secured the team's qualification for the international finals by taking an impressive win three laps ahead of their closest competition.

"We arrived with rain making the track conditions tricky, but once we got going, it was an enjoyable drive," says Will. "Crossing the finish line victorious was a great moment for the team and a testament to all the hard work we've put in this season."

The second car, Scalar, is the first time the team has designed a car independently. Scalar is built fully from scratch using CAD software.

Co-Head of Engineering, Tom, completed multiple online courses in order to be able to use the complex software. "I had never used CAD before," said Tom. "Once you learn the basics, you can create almost anything. You can even test aerodynamics and stress points, which was a surreal experience when everything worked correctly."

The teams have been supported on their journey by their sponsors, including Oakham-based businesses.

The final will take place on 13th October at Goodwood Motor Circuit.
