Green-fingered residents are being invited to nominated their gardens for this year's Oakham in Bloom community competition.

There are two categories - Best Secret Garden (not seen from the highway) and Best Front Garden.

Teresa Thompson, of the organisation, said: "The Oakham in Bloom gardens competition is part of our own local community activities and we are looking for entries for the front and back garden categories.

"We had around a dozen last year and it would be nice to have more.

"Two appointed judges from Oakham in Bloom committee will visit each garden, by appointment and weather permitting, during the first two weeks of August."

In the meantime Oakham In Bloom volunteers are pressing ahead with preparations for the town's entry in the East Midlands in Bloom competition, being judged next month.
