McDonald's has submitted a planning application to Rutland County Council to build a fast-food restaurant in Oakham - the first in the county.

The restaurant with drive-thru and parking is planned for a large area of undeveloped land at Hawkesmead estate.

A spokesman for the company told Oakham Nub News: "I can confirm that we have submitted a planning application to open a new restaurant at the Hawksmead Business Estate on Lands End Way.

"The restaurant would create at least 65 new jobs, provide industry-leading training opportunities and support for community initiatives.

"We recently held a public exhibition at Victoria Hall and were delighted to welcome and engage with 394 local residents, providing an opportunity to see the plans, ask questions about the proposed restaurant and discuss our commitment to being a good neighbour.

"We would like to thank everyone who made the time to visit the exhibition and who provided feedback on the proposals.

"McDonald's is excited at the prospect of opening a new restaurant in Oakham and we look forward to working with the council and the community on our application."
