Extra swimming starts today at Catmose sports centre

The Catmose Sports Centre in Oakham has extended its swimming services today.

The move follows a bail-out package agreed between Rutland County Council and Stevenage Leisure Limited, who operate the centre for the council, as previously reported by Nub News.

It comes a month after the centre, based in the grounds of Catmose College on Huntsman Drive re-opened a month ago promising a phased re-opening of services.

Coun Lucy Stephenson, Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, told Nub News: "We recently agreed extra funding for Catmose Sports Centre, because of the damaging effect that COVID-19 has had on leisure facilities nationwide.

"Following on from this, managers at the centre have looked carefully at how they can reintroduce more swimming sessions, safely.

"With all the necessary precautions now in place, the centre is looking forward to welcoming swimmers back in greater numbers, which is really positive news.

Coun Stephenson continued: "Added safety measures in shops, hospitality venues and leisure facilities are all important to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

"It's equally important that we continue to follow public health guidelines in all aspects of daily life. By washing your hands regularly, wearing a face covering where needed and following social distancing rules, we can avoid a scenario where much-valued local facilities have to close again."
