A Rutland podcast delving into perfect pub stops across the county has released a new episode featuring a local venue that is in the midst of a major revamp.
Oakham residents Tim Ives and Justin Perry launched the podcast, Pub Natter, late last year, and have featured Oakham's The Grainstore, a local armed forces breakfast club, The Noel in Whitwell, Rutland CAMRA, The Olive Branch and The Railway Inn in Ketton - so far!
The venture promotes the pubs and people of Rutland and uses each episode to focus on a different pub or group in the local area. The most recent release delves into life at The George Inn, formally The Whipper-In, in Oakham Market Place.
The duo said: "Want to know what's going on at the George Inn (previously the Whipper Inn) in Oakham market Place? Tune in to the latest Pub Natter, where we chat with the owner, Ryck Turner and discuss his amazing future plans for his hotel, pub and restaurant."
In Episode 8, the pair have a chat with new owner, Rick Turner, who is hoping to turn the historic venue into a high end pub and restaurant, with accommodation and new leisure facilities.
Ryck, although born in Sheffield, is taking the venue back to its Rutland roots as The George Hotel.

Never listen to podcasts?
Other than learning more about the pubs of Rutland, podcasts in general are good for mental health, offering a mental break to rest and recuperate, reducing stress and make users feel less alone. They are also really available for free.
The team said: "Now is the time to start listening to podcasts. You have plenty to choose from. Google reckons about 4.2 million. Obviously, you need to include Pub Natter in your 'must listens'. You can subscribe to the podcast (free) to ensure you don't miss an episode. Podcasts offer you an easy listen where you can be the 'other person' in the conversation, without having to expend any energy, so they offer a good portable form of entertainment, especially if you choose one where you have an obvious interest, like Rutland pubs for example."
The pair are hard at work creating podcasts with other local groups, landlords and individuals. While they are fully booked into March, they are still welcoming local pubs who wish to feature on the podcast.
