Last night, Monday 12 December 2022, former Oakham Mayor stepped in to switch the Oakham Christmas Tree Lights on at the Late Night Shopping event hosted by Carolyn Acton-Reed's Oakham & Rutland Events.

Following a community dispute on social media regarding a lack of Christmas Tree Light Switch On, Oakham Town Council and Oakham & Rutland Events agreed that current Oakham Mayor Sally-Anne Wadsworth would switch the lights off and on again at the community event.

However, Cllr Wadsworth was not present at the event, so former Mayor Zoë Nealson stepped in to do the honours with a local 5-year-old, Rob Persani of Rutland & Stamford Sound, and Chris of Warner's Traditional Sweet Shop.

Sally-Anne Wadsworth claimed that she "did not pull out of the tree switch on last night but was told that the switch off and on had not been organised, so I was led to believe this was not happening."

This comes amid controversy within Oakham Town Council as former Cllr Nealson hands in her resignation, and Oakham Town Council Chairman, Sally-Anne Wadsworth responds.
