After much contention regarding the Christmas light switch on, Carolyn Acton-Reed of Oakham & Rutland Events and Oakham Town Council have come to the compromise that Oakham's Mayor Sally-Anne Wadsworth will switch on the Christmas lights at the Oakham Late Night Shopping event on the 12th of December 2022.

Despite the lights being switched on informally in early December, the lights will be switched off and on again at the Oakham Late Night Shopping event after Oakham residents voiced their disappointment at the absence of a formal switch on event on social media.

As such, Rutland residents can expect a light switch on ceremony to take place at 6.45pm on Monday the 12th of December 2022.
