Of course, the most important for many is spending time with loved ones, so here at Oakham Nub News we have compiled a list of seasonal events to help get you into the Christmas spirit.

Uppingham Late Night Shopping

Visit Uppingham on Thursday the 1st of December 2022 from 5.30-9pm and enjoy Uppingham's late night shopping event in the picturesque market town.

There will family fun, entertainment, food, gift fair, and festive activities galore!

Festive Shopping at Rutland Nursery

Enjoy a wonderfully Christmassy evening of gift shopping at Rutland Nursery on Thursday the 1st of December 2022, 6pm - 8:30pm.

Matthew Hoggard will be on hand at Hoggy's Grill, onsite for winter BBQ demonstrations and canapés.

Tickets cost £3.95 and include a glass of mulled wine, a Multum Gin Parvo sloe gin hot toddy, a non-alcoholic mulled winter punch and delicious homemade mince pies!

Midwinter Revels at Oakham Castle

GreenMatthews present their new festive show on December 2nd 2022.

Spanning several centuries, Midwinter Revels is a celebration of Yuletide Past guaranteed to warm the cockles of the most Scrooge-like heart. Featuring Christmas carols, winter folk songs, toe-tapping tunes and a plethora of weird and wonderful instruments, the show is brought to life with GreenMatthews' trademark wit and humour.

Doors open at 7pm and the show begins at 7.30pm

Tickets cost £14.00 for adults and £8.50 for those 16 and under.

Tesco Christmas Community Market

The team at Tesco are holding a Christmas Community Market at Tesco Oakham on Saturday 3rd December 9-3 pm. 

Pop down, support the team and grab some Christmas gifts and bargains.

Rutland Garden Village Christmas Arts and Crafts Fair

On Saturday and Sunday the 3rd & 4th of December from 10am-3pm, Rutland Garden Village are hosting their Christmas Craft Fair.

Join the team for their Art, Craft and Vintage fair… a popular event following up from last year! The stall holders have so much to offer, so come and support your local artisans.

The event is under cover and entry and parking are free.

Santa's Grotto at The Harbour Café

Get in the festive spirit this December at the Harbour Café Christmas grotto experience from the 4th - 18th of December 2022.

Try your hand at some Christmas crafts, take part in a magical mission and even get a special gift chosen by Father Christmas himself

Want to extend the magic of your visit? Take a speed boat ride to find Santa's reindeer hiding on the shores.

Christmas Extravaganza

On the 4th of December from 12 - 4pm, the local community are invited to Cutts Close to get in the festive spirit with the Oakham Town Council Christmas Extravaganza!

There will be festive nibbles and drinks, stalls, and more to enjoy with your local community.

There will also be a festive charity fun run in aid of Rutland Rotary Club charities....

Rutland Charity Santa Fun Run

The Rutland Santa Fun Run organised by the Rotary Club of Rutland will be held in the heart of Rutland on Cutts Close Oakham as part of the Oakham Town Council's Christmas Extravaganza on Sunday the 4th of December 2022 at 12:15pm.

This lighthearted vent gives the opportunity for schools and individuals to raise money via sponsorship for their own good causes or for charites that Rotary supports.

The run will start and finish at the bandstand in Cutts Close Park and the total distance is 600 metres. People can do as many laps as they like up to a maximum of five. Those running will be offered mulled wine and mince pies when they have completed their run and there will be a hot dog stall available

The cost is £10 for adults and £5 for children, and the cost includes a Santa suit.

Rutland NSPCC Christmas Carol Concert

Following two years of absence due to the pandemic the ever popular NSPCC Christmas Carol Concert is back. 

Supported by the Rowell Camerata Choir, the Forresters Brass band and our talented team of readers to regale us with seasonal prose and poetry, the concert is now in its 14th year and has raised over £280,000 for the NSPCC.

Tickets are limited so buy one today. You can also take part in the Rutland NSPCC luxury hamper draw. Each £10 donation buys you 3 entry tickets.

The event will take place at All Saints Church, Church Street, Oakham, Rutland, LE15 6AA on Monday the 5th of December at 7:30pm

'The Christmas Night' Concert

After a successful Spring concert taking the total raised for charities over £23,000 since being formed in 2012, Chater Community Choir will be giving their seasonal concert, 'This Christmas Night', at South Luffenham Parish Church on Friday 9th December at 7:30pm. 

The choir will be supporting the Rutland Food Bank, which along with helping local people with food poverty are wanting to donate each family they help with a warm blanket this winter. 

After the concert there will be the opportunity to enjoy a mince pie or two and a glass of festive cheer in the Village Hall.

Victoria Hall Christmas Disco Extravaganza

On Saturday the 10th of December 2022, Victoria Hall will play host to the Christmas Disco Extravaganza.

All profits will be going to Rutland Girlguides

Tickets cost £10 and are available from Kids and More, 9 Crown walk, Oakham or Oakham Town Council ROL House, Long Row, Oakham.

The event begins at 8pm at Victoria Hall, High Street, Oakham.

Top of the Pops at Oakham Castle

Enjoy a free festive concert given by the D'Ukes of Rutland, Oakham's Ukulele Club at Oakham Castle on Saturday the 10th of December 2022 from 1:30pm - 3:30pm. 

The first half will include songs that have topped the charts at Christmas but have no connection to the festive season. 

In the second, you are invited to sing along with the D'ukes as they perform some of their favourite Christmas songs.

Festive Mini Golf and Winter Wonderland Trail

Shake up your Christmas plans and join the team at Sykes Lane, Rutland Water for a festive game of crazy golf, with plenty of magical surprises along the way. 

The adventure doesn't stop there! Get exploring the wonderfully wintery wildlife trail and leave with your very own festive surprise.

£5 per child (Golf – £4 per adult)

10:00am to 3:00pm daily from the 10th of December 2022 until the 1st of January 2023.

There is no need to book - just turn up, pay and explore!

Family Festivities at Barnsdale Gardens

Put on your Christmas jumpers and join the team at Barnsdale Gardens for a family festive day of Christmas crafts on the 10th and 11th of December 2022.

There will be:

  • children's Christmas wreath making 
  • Rudolf tree decoration creation
  • a festive quiz
  • a raffle

Enjoy this event from 12 - 4pm.

Christmas Concert at Victoria Hall

On Saturday the 10th of December 2022, enjoy live music from Mezzo-Soprano Gabriella Pineda-Rodriguez at Victoria Hall.

Gabriella will sing a range of festive songs with the opportunity to join in with some.

Enjoy this musical extravaganza from 3pm - 5pm and tickets are £10 for those 14 and over.

Oakham Late Night Shopping

On Monday the 12th of December 2022, Oakham High Street and Victoria Hall will play host to Oakham's Late Night Shopping event.

There will be:

  • stalls
  • food
  • drinks
  • live music
  • games
  • and more...

Shops will open late and there will be activities for the kids big and small!

The shopping event will take place from 4pm until 9pm.

Video Call with Santa

This December, Melton Aurora Rotary Club will be providing WhatsApp video calls with Santa for only £5 for household.

From 5pm - 7pm, enjoy a video call with Santa and raise money for charity with Melton Aurora Rotary. 

This is only running from 12th - 16th December 2022, so get booked in online now! 

Afternoon tea with Santa at The Hornblower

On Tuesday 20th December 2022, The Admiral Hornblower is hosting a very special appearance from Santa.

Join the team from 3pm-5.30pm to have a festive afternoon tea, story time with the man himself and a special gift to take home.

Parents are welcome to join too, and you can even upgrade your afternoon tea to include prosecco... after all it is Christmas!

Ovation are hosting their Christmas sing-a-long evening on the 22nd of December 2022 from 6:30pm onwards.
