A fundraiser has been launched on behalf of three-week-old Poppy and her family to raise money for Heart Link Children's Charity at Leicester Royal Infirmary. 

Only three weeks into her life, Poppy had to be taken to LRI following a positive blood result on a metabolic test. Doctors then examined her, finding a high breathing rate, requiring emergency x-rays and echo examinations on her heart. 

These tests revealed she had two holes in her heart, making her blood oxygen levels poor. 

According to a Holly Adams, speaking on behalf of the family, "We were very lucky that it was caught when it happened as Poppy was only 3 weeks old at the time. 

"After a couple of weeks on the Child Cardiac ward, we got the amazing news that Poppy could have surgery for the full repair of her heart." 

The surgery took 6 hours and doctors managed to completely repair the holes in her heart. She spent the week following the surgery in the Paediatric Child Care Intensive Unit where she was on a breathing tube, fluids and medication. 

After a couple days, the doctors decided it was time that the tubes could come out but unfortunately her numbers rapidly dropped and Poppy went into 6 minutes of cardiac arrest. She became stable again once the tube was returned. 

A few days later, Poppy "decided the tube was annoying and helped take it out by giving a huge cough. She was stable and strong this time."

Following this, she was able to return to the ward and eventually was sent home. She has now managed to come off her medication and has showed massive signs of improvement. 

The JustGiving Page set up in Poppy's name hopes to raise £1,000 for Poppy, her family and doctors at Leicester Royal Infirmary with donations going to Heart Link Children's Charity. At the time of writing, the fundraiser is at £572.
