Oakham: Oakham Daffodil Trail finds support with open garden and garage sale at 15 Lonsdale Way
By Guest 15th Mar 2022
On the 19th and 20th of March 2022, 15 Lonsdale Way, Oakham, will be hosting a garage sale and open garden in aid of Oakham in Bloom Daffodil Trail.
Oakham Daffodil Trail began last autumn, with Oakham in Bloom volunteers planing upwards of 5,000 bulbs around the town, with the hopes of taking visitors on a tour of Oakham.
After all of this hard work, the trail opened on the 26th of February 2022, with the Lord Lieutenant of Rutland Dr Sarah Furness, launching the Oakham Daffodil Trail booklet.
It is hoped that the new daffodil trail and this booklet will encourage both locals and tourists to explore more of the town.
The route, which incorporates multiple locations around Oakham, also nods to Rutland's local history in some areas, including the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain with the wicker Spitfire on the bypass and the creation of the Catmose Arboretum in the 1800s by the Library.
Joyce Lucas from Oakham in Bloom said: "We have booklets in Oakham Library, the Museum, the Victoria Hall and at various caravan sites throughout the county [as well as] the Information Centre at Sykes Lane, Rutland Water.
"Bring people in, spend the money in the town, have a look at the history as well because we have such a lot of it!"
The garage sale and open garden on the 19th and 20th of March will run as an extension of this, supporting to ongoing maintenance as well as booklet printing.
There will be a range of goods on sale at the event, as well as the opportunity to see a wide range of daffodils.
A Tete Boucle miniature double two tone yellow daffodil can be seen pictured, and other daffodils in full bloom include King Alfred, Jet Fire, Tete-a-tete, Rip Van Winkle, Eaton Song, Topolino and Ice Follies.
The sale and open garden will run between 10am and 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday in aid of Oakham in Bloom Daffodil Trail.
