This May, the Macular Society are supporting local people struggling with and experiencing sight loss.

On Tuesday 2 May, Rutland residents can make the most of a Sight Loss Open Day being run by the Macular Society at Oakham Methodist Church.

Macular degeneration is an eye disease that can blur your central vision. It happens when aging causes damage to the macula — the part of the eye that controls sharp, straight-ahead vision.

A spokesperson for Macular Society said: "We're here for everyone with a macular condition. Our vision is to end macular disease."

They also hope to beat the fear and isolation of macular disease with world-class research, and the best advice and support.

Their strategy is to beat macular disease throughout funding research, building scientific capacity and facilitating collaboration.

The team also run a bi-monthly vision support group at Saxon Gardens in Oakham.

The Oakham and Uppingham Support Group meet on the first Tuesday of every other month (Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct, Dec) from 10.30am until 12pm.

See their website for more information.
