Rutland Sword, a local Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) group based in Rutland, are offering Oakham locals the chance to try out sword, axe and spear fighting for free this December.

Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) refers to the practical study in the use of weapons from history, including learning how to wield the Medieval Long Sword, Sword & Buckler, Sword & Shield and other weapons from the past.

HEMA takes teachings from past masters in these arts such as Fiore, Vadi, and others, using modern translations and interpretations to master the art of arms.

The Rutland Sword group is now looking for like-minded people to join them in exploring this skill.

Rutland Sword said: "No previous experience required though enthusiasm and passion are a must. If you have ever felt a desire to acquire a new and interesting skill whilst gaining a new level of fitness and agility, this is for you."

The free taster session will take place at Catmose Sports Centre from 6pm until 8pm on Thursday the 8th of December 2022.

Under 18's are welcome with a parent or guardian.

Follow Rutland Sword on Facebook for more information and updates.
