A forecast for heavy rain, following flooding across the county earlier this year, has made Rutland residents fear that, once again, they will have to endure disruptions and damages.

At the beginning of January, Rutland encountered heavy rain and flooding which caused damage to homes and businesses, as well as multiple road closures.

Now, Rutland is once again facing flood warnings, with Whissendine suffering high waters at the end of last week and over the weekend, and other locations struggling with surface water.

In January, Whissendine, Langham, Whitwell, some Oakham locations and Manton Bridge all experienced flooding which caused road closures and damages as floods impacted citizens across the country.

Across England, the Government put support in place for those who had experienced flood damage as a result.

However, Rutland missed out on this funding due to the quota required for a county to qualify for financial support. As a result, Rutland County Council waived Council Tax for homeowners who were hit by flooding.

More rain is due this week, causing Rutland residents to once again worry that they will be under-supported if the worst happens.

Are you concerned about further flooding and damage to your home?

If you need to report flooding on local roads or inside your property, you can email: [email protected] or call: 01572 722 577. The council's phones are answered by Harborough Lifeline outside of normal working hours. Please leave a message if lines are busy. If you are in danger or need emergency care, call 999.
