Higher tier credited with no new crime for Rutland Neighbourhood Watch

Rutland Police say that moving into Tier 3 has helped deliver no reportable crimes to Neighbourhood Watch in the last week of December.

They told the volunteer group: "As we move to Tier 3 in Rutland, the effect of the COVID policeman is even more apparent with no reported crimes considered appropriate for circulation this week, i.e. no burglaries (residential or commercial), thefts of or from motor vehicles, and no other thefts.

"This is good news for most people, but nationally the restricted movement is reportedly causing an increase in family related problems, which we do not normally report."

Rutland Police added: "If you are a victim of such behaviour, and you would like free confidential advice on this or worrying alcohol or drug use, by you or a family member, quick links are available on your [Neighbourhood Watch] App.

"By clicking on the Victim Support logo on the front/face page, and then choosing the appropriate agency you can gain speedy access to non-judgemental advice."

The comment comes as Rutland faces even tougher restrictions from Midnight tonight following the Tier 3 imposed last week.

Tonight, at 8pm Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to announce changes, which media reports say will be a nationwide application of the Tier 4 rules which have been imposed on Lincolnshire and Leicestershire.
