Housing plans approved at Rutland farm

By The Editor 20th Jun 2020

Four houses have been approved at a farm at Whissendine.

Craig Hawes of Nottingham-based McAfee Design applied to build the homes on a 1000m2 site as Manor Farm, Station Road, Whissendine.

His application to Rutland County Council demolition some existing buildings and converting another building, whose current uses were agricultural/light industrial.

It said the site already has planning approval for similar plans, but the approved designs were 'inoffensive and suburban' with 'bland fences and featureless walls' with a design that was a 'go anywhere pastiche of traditional forms.'

Instead, the new application promised 'improved design' with a well-screened site giving a formal courtyard appearance.

Some neighbours had complained to the planning authority that the proposal would create a 'loss of privacy'.

However, planners for the county council believed the scheme would not harm the setting of the village, with it replacing the site's current 'derelict and unsightly appearance.'

It would therefore enhance the character and appearance of this part of Whissendine, they added.
