The local constituency has seen a boundary change, meaning that Rutland will now be paired with Stamford in the upcoming general elections, rather than Melton.

But do you think that this will make a difference to the way the local area votes?

And when will the general elections be?

The latest a Parliament can be dissolved for a general election is five years to the day it first met, which would be 17 December 2024.

However, 25 working days are then allowed to prepare for the election. As such, the upcoming election must be held by 28 January 2025 - although it is expected that the general elections may be held in late 2024.

It will be PM Rishi Sunak who officially decides upon a date.

Until then though, local candidates will be put forward by political parties in each constituency. However, this upcoming election may see unexpected results, following the 2023 boundary change.

The four Boundary Commissions for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland published their final recommendations in late June 2023 following three rounds of public consultation.

This has resulted in a series of changes to constituency boundaries, including in Rutland.

Once Melton and Rutland, the local boundary change means that Rutland is now paired with Stamford. Conservative MP Alicia Kearns has held the Rutland and Melton area since 2019, when the Tories took control of Parliament.

The Guardian has predicted that this boundary change will result in an increase in Tory voters with this boundary change, from 62.6% to 63.3%. These predictions also see Lib Dem coming second in the area, where Labour was the second favourite party when the boundary included Melton.

While other changes factor in this divergence, boundary changes look set to change the local voting landscape - but perhaps not as dramatically as expected....

Who will you be voting for in the upcoming elections? Have your allegiances changed?
