Rutland Farm Park will be hosting a family fun day and charity fundraiser next month in memory of the 'big friendly giant', Richard.

Rutland Farm Park is a popular local attraction run by one Rutland family, with yours in mind.

The team is made up of husband and wife duo, Clive and Julie Ball, who are supported by their children and team of local workers and volunteers. Their daughter, Amy is key when it comes to the everyday running of the farm, and this year's family fun day has been inspired by her.

Ten years ago, Amy lost her partner Richard to cancer.

Richard was a loving and much-loved member of the family both at Rutland Farm Park and his own family, who run Portess in Oakham. He worked in the high street store for many years and was a friendly and familiar face to both colleagues and customers.

On the ten year anniversary of Richard's passing, the team have decided to raise money for Blood Cancer UK at their annual fun day – something that they haven't run since the pandemic closed them down in 2020.

They announced the news of the return of the fun day, and their personal fundraising goal, on social media: "It's that time of the year again, which means it's time for another fun day. We haven't been able to run one since before Covid, so this one is going to go off with a bang – and we're so excited!

"This year marks ten whole years since we all lost out wonderful big friendly giant Richard, Amy's late fiancé. So in his memory we are raising funds for blood cancer, as this was a charity close to his heart."

However, the team need your help to make their day a success.

Not only do they need families to drop in and support their own family-led fun day, but they are also looking for volunteers to help things run smoothly.

The team continued: "Are you free to help for the day or for a few hours to help us ? We need your help with animal handling and with the fun activities – and we've got some interesting games coming this year.

"All volunteers will be fed and kept hydrated throughout the day, and will be given passes to come back again to see all the animals."
