This week, Oakham locals will have the opportunity to meet local novelist E.C. Bateman, author of popular locally-set cozy mystery series 'The Stamford Mysteries'.

The series includes popular whodunnit 'Death at Auction' and the latest instalment, 'Murder Most Antique', both set in the historic town of Stamford and featuring the local antiques trade.

E. C. Bateman is a novelist and antique jewellery specialist who, after marrying an auctioneer and moving to Stamford, dreamt up the idea for the series whilst living in a converted Georgian flat overlooking St. Mary's Church in the heart of town.

The pair have since decamped to the surrounding countryside with their baby daughter, but can still be spotted around the cobbled streets on a regular basis, usually being dragged along by their "effervescent" pup, Audrey the cocker spaniel.

Her most recent release, 'Murder Most Antique', came out late last year, with the cover illustrated by local artist, Katie Cardew.

It follows auctioneer Felicia Grant who encounters Stamford's annual Georgian Fair, a fictional town mayor and death in a hook-a-duck pool, leading her into another cozy 'Stamford Mystery'.

One five-star reader review said: "Ideal for fans of Richard Osman's books… this murder mystery will keep you guessing as the bodies stack up! Full of red herrings, twists and turns, wonderful characters and fabulous houses."

E. C Bateman will be chatting about the November release, signing copies of the book and taking part in a relax Q&A with attendees.

Tickets cost £2.50 each, including refreshments, and are available from Oakham Library. Booking is advisable.
