A local father is swapping his bed for a sleeping bag later this month, with the aim of raising funds for the Royal British Legion.

Steve Abbott, a loving father and husband and loyal supporter of local rugby, is fundraising the Royal British Legion this March by tackling big outdoor sleeping challenge alongside thousands of other nutty patriots across the country.

An Oakham local and long-time Rutland resident, Steve is taking part in The Great Tommy Sleep Out later this month, and is working hard to raise desperately needed funds to support veterans across the country.

The Great Tommy Sleep Out, sponsored by BAE Systems, is a fundraising challenge designed to support the estimated 6,000 veterans that are experiencing homelessness in the UK right now.

You can sleep outside for one night or more, tent or no tent, at any time in March, and the charity ask that you attempt to raise at least £150.

The event is organised by the Royal British legion, and also supports 'Sleep-Outers' in making friends and connecting veterans.

Steve said: "With every penny raised, Royal British Legion Industries can provide safe, warm housing and ensure everyone has a fair opportunity to gain employment, regardless of health conditions or disability.

"Please help me to raise much-needed funds for this incredible cause."

Steve's proud wife, Lisa, added: "Steve is swapping his bed for the cold outdoors on 29 March to raise awareness and funds for the over 6,000 veterans who are experiencing homelessness in the UK.

"No one should have to sleep rough especially those who put their lives on the line to protect ours.

"Please help him to raise as much money as possible for this amazing charity by clicking on the Donate button at the top of this page."

You can find out more on Steve's Facebook fundraising page, where Steve is creeping towards his fundraising target.

Steve will be tackling the big sleep out on 29 March, so there is still time to donate!
