On Thursday 29 February, Alicia Kearns MP submitted her Parliamentary petition against the proposed Mallard Pass solar plant to the Journal Office ahead of the official presentation to the House of Commons.

Alicia's petition against the proposed solar plant has been signed by over 3,000 concerned individuals.

Alicia will officially present the petition to the House of Commons on 17th April 2024, before the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero makes the final decision on whether to approve or reject the solar plant.

Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Melton, said:

"I am so grateful for all the work of Mallard Pass Action Group and our wonderful communities, who have come together to take a stand against this heinous development which threatens our fertile agricultural land.

"Together, we have secured over 3,000 petition signatures, raised concerns with Ministers, held public meetings, secured the support of human rights organisations, revealed the financial dealings of Windell Energy, and exposed Canadian Solar's links to forced slave labour.

"If we are serious about food security, we must protect our best and most versatile land from excessive solar development, while also taking a stand against all forms of slave labour. I am hopeful the number of signatures on my petition will impress upon the Government why this wholly unacceptable development must not be allowed to go ahead.
