Major housing plan and emergency response head agenda for Oakham Town Council tonight
A major development for 84 homes will come before tonight's meeting of Oakham Town Council.
As Nub News recently reported, Davidson Developments and Timothy William Needham wants to build the homes, with public open space, landscaping, a pump station and associated infrastructure on 4.2ha of land off Uppingham Road.
The application to Rutland County Council seeks consent for 29x3 bed,18x4 bed and 8x2 bed market homes and 8x1 bed, 8x2 bed and 9x3bed social/ affordable homes.
At tonight's meeting Oakham Town Council is expected to debate the issue and send a recommendation to Rutland County Council who will eventually make a decision on the application.
Tonight's meeting will also consider how it might respond to future emergencies, ranging from floods and blizzards to violent events.
Town Councillor Adrian Orchard has produced a report on how it could be done, following the recent festival at Rutland Showground and the incidents that arose while it took place during late June, as also reported by Nub News.
The agenda includes members of the public having a spot to address the meeting and ask councillors questions. There will also be reports from the town mayor, town clerk and working clubs.
Members are also due to discuss possible funding to aid a post-covid recovery in the high street, a request from Churches Together to use Cutts Close Bandstand on September 5 and how to fill a town council vacancy in South Ward.
The meeting of the full council is at ROL House, Long Row, and starts at 6.30pm.
Town mayor Zoe Nealson posted on Facebook: "This is an open meeting and as always residents are invited to attend, however we will be closely following all corona restrictions and guidance in place at the time to make sure everybody is safe. This will mean that we have to limit the number of people in the room and may have to refuse entry to some.
