A 30-year-old man has been charged with four offences relating to an incident on Oakham High Street where an officer was hit by a car.

Ndricim Jakupi, of no fixed address, was charged with assault by beating an emergency worker, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving with no insurance.

These charges are related to a hit-and-run incident on Oakham High Street on Monday 26 January.

According to Leicestershire Police, two officers were called to the town centre and approached an illegally parked Honda CRV.

The man behind the wheel was reported by officers as refusing to engage with them, before driving towards one of the officers.

The car hit the officer, causing him to mount the bonnet and land on the pavement.

The vehicle then hit two stationary cars before fleeing the scene.

Police were immediately deployed to the scene to try to locate the driver, including a police dog, drone and assistance from the National Police Air Service.

The car involved in the incident was found abandoned a few hours later in Harrington Way, Oakham and has now been recovered by police.

The officer hit by the car suffered minor cuts and grazes from the incident and has since been checked by a medical professional as a precaution.

In addition to the four charges relating to this incident, Jakupi was also charged with stalking as an unrelated offence that is reported to have happened in Hertfordshire.
