A referendum was held in the Parish of Market Overton on Thursday 23 February 2023 to decide on the following question:

Do you want Rutland County Council to use the neighbourhood plan for the Parish of Market Overton to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?

Result:

  • Number cast in favour of a 'YES' – 101 votes
  • Number cast in favour of a 'NO' – 6 votes

The total number of votes represented 27% of the registered electors, with more than half of those voting in favour of the Market Overton Neighbourhood Plan.

This follows the passing of the Langham and Oakham and Barleythorpe Neighbourhood plans in 2022.

193 residents voted in favour of the Langham plan, while 14 voted against.

The number of people who voted in favour of the Oakham and Barleythorpe plan was 987. The number voted 'No' was 307.

However, one Rutland resident asked if the public really had the 'Big Picture' of these plans prior to voting. Read more here and let us know what you think by emailing [email protected].

Full results from the poll, along with details of elector turnout, can be viewed on the Neighbourhood Planning Referendums page of Rutland County Council's website
