At an Oakham Town Council (OTC) meeting on Wednesday 10 May, The Mayor of Oakham handed over a cheque for £1438 to the Rutland Girl Guides - funds which had been raised during her year filling the role.

On Wednesday night, Sally-Anne Wadsworth, Councillor and current Oakham Town Council Chairman, Sally-Anne Wadsworth was also re-elected as Mayor of Oakham.

Sally-Anne was Deputy Mayor in 2019/20 and was predicted to take the role on in 2021/22, before Zoë Nealson was put forward as an unexpected candidate by Cllr David Romney, who was Mayor at the time.

Sally-Anne was mayor of Oakham in 2022/23, and will continue to fill this role in 2023/24.

Cllr Chris Nix, who runs Ovation in Gaol Street with his partner Bianca, will take on the role of Deputy Mayor.

Following last week's Local Elections, Cllr Wadsworth has encouraged members of the public to come forward to stand for council.

Across Rutland, many Councils had empty seats and uncontested candidates, meaning that many local, town and parish councils did not host elections.

Rutland County Council, however, saw more fierce competition.
