Met Office warns that Storm Darragh will bring high winds and rain to Rutland this weekend
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning across Rutland and the Midlands as Storm Darragh brings strong wind and heavy rain across the UK from late Friday evening.
With some areas of the UK such as Wales expected to have extremely strong and damaging winds, Rutland will hopefully not receive the full force of the storm.
Local weather expert Phil Morrish gave this report via X: "[Weather will be] very poor on Saturday! Winds gusting to 50-60 mph with showers and rain. Indoor activities only on Saturday as the weather outside will be appalling. Danger of flying debris could cause injuries to people."
According to the Met Office, with a Yellow Weather Warning for wind, local people can expect the following:
- There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs
- It is likely that some roads and bridges could close, with impacts from falling trees
- There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
- There is a small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties
- There is a small chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris
- There is likely to be longer journey times or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected
There has also been additional warning of flooding implemented across the East Midlands with an estimated up to 25mm of rain expected to fall.
