Rutland MP Alicia Kearns has shared her reaction to the announcement from government that local elections in Leicestershire and Lincolnshire will go ahead.

In an announcement yesterday (5 February), the government also announced that neither Lincolnshire, Leicestershire nor Rutland have been put on a priority pathway for local government organisation.

In a statement by Alicia Kearns, she said: "For Rutland and our Harborough Villages, this is very good news as it means we have slightly more time to urge our Councils to engage with local people and work out what options would be best for our communities rather than being forced and rushed into a new unitary council with the city expanding into our Shire.

"Our councils now need to lead this engagement and ensure our communities are heard. Government may be forcing this on us, but our Councils can fight for us."

Rutland County Council will be holding a special Council meeting on devolution on Monday 11th February in the main chamber at the Council's Catmose offices in Oakham from 7pm. This will also be available to watch live on the Council's website.
