MP gives update on A1 central reservation crossing closure
By Grace Kennington 21st Jul 2026
Alicia Kearns' campaign to improve the safety of the A1 central reservation crossing is underway, with the MP sharing updates on how work is going.
According to Kearns, 'following my petition to National Highways to close the crossings, work has been completed to close the first thirteen crossings between Little Ponton and Colsterworth.'
As part of phase two of the work, National Highways are looking at the Junction at Toll Bar Road just north of Grantham.
The next phase of work (phase three), will focus on Little Ponton to Colsterworth section of the A1.
Initial concept design has been carried out to see what work would be required to close all the gaps along this section of the road but funding is yet to be allocated to this phase and feedback from Great Ponton residents did not show unanimous support for the closure so this will be a long process.
At the moment, National Highways is considering a range of possible options for the junctions of Health Lane/ Dallygate and other options like speed limit reductions.
Kearns is still pushing for improvements at the A1 Stamford Junctions and for 'the safest possible solutions for our communities.'
