There has been an on-going local effort with the #Save Rutland campaign to protect Rutland's identity since the start of the discussions about local government reorganisation.

MP for Rutland and Stamford Alicia Kearns is urging local people and groups to return their petitions 'at the absolute latest' by Tuesday 1st April to her office in order for her to present the petition to parliament.

For anyone who has been collecting signatures or has a copy of the petition, Kearns asks that all paper copies be returned to her office at 6 Market Street, Oakham by Tuesday at the latest.

She also asks that locals "continue to share the word and continue to protect the future of our wonderful county. Anyone of any age and located anywhere in the country can sign.

She also said: "Tomorrow I will be holding a public meeting in Stamford to update residents on the latest proposals for Local Council Re-Organisation and hear your feedback on these plans. The meeting will take place from 5.30pm - 7pm at the Stamford Arts Centre."

It is also important to note that only 'wet signatures' will be accepted, not any form of online petition as this cannot be presented to parliament.
