MP 'utterly relieved' Benedict's Law passed by Government in memory of Stamford five-year-old
By Grace Kennington 10th Mar 2026
Alicia Kearns, MP for Rutland and Stamford, has shared she is 'utterly relieved' to have secured commitment from the Government to put Benedict's Law into legislation, in memory of five-year-old Benedict Blythe from Stamford.
Benedict Blythe died from an allergic reaction at his primary school in 2021 and the Benedict Blythe Foundation has been campaigning since his death for better allergy policies to be legally required in schools.
Research carried out in 2024 found 70% of schools did not have spare allergy pens, allergy trained staff or a school allergy policy.
Benedict's Law, or the School Allergy Safety Bill, is legislation that will make 680,000 pupils with allergies in England safer at school by making it a legal requirement for every school to have spare allergy pens, allergy trained staff and a school allergy policy in place.
After five years of campaigning by Benedict's family and the Benedict Blythe Foundation, with support from Alicia Kearns, the government has now committed to put Benedict's Law into legislation.
