A Notice of Vacancy has been published for the office of Rutland County Councillor for Oakham South Ward, following the resignation of Councillor Ian Razzell.

Ian Razzell was a Conservative Councillor for Oakham South before his break from the party on the 6th of May 2022.

Razzell was also the Armed Forced Champion for Rutland County Council.

Ian Razzell said: "It's important to me that the Armed Forces family (which I remain part of) hear from me on why I have resigned from the Council.

"Principally, the values and standards of a 37 year career in the Army are binary and at odds with the actions and plans of a number of elected members.

"When the Armed Forces family are referred to as "only 20% of the population", I have to respond and defend.

"I remain indebted to our superb Officers and am grateful to those members who were and continue to be, supportive to the military family. It is for others that we serve.

"In Arduis Fidelis."

Now that Ian Razzell has left the post, an election will be held to fill the Oakham South Ward. Dates for this election are yet to be announced.

An election will be held to fill the vacancy within 35 days after the required notice is made in writing to the Returning Officer by two local government electors.

The full Notice of Vacancy can be read online.
