The Oakham Canal Green Corridor Project volunteers have launched their guided walks programme for Summer 2023.
The Oakham Canal Green Corridor Project is a registered charity working to preserve and restore the old Oakham Canal in Rutland, UK, in order to "share the economic, environmental, social and leisure opportunities this beautiful waterway offers".
The new Green Corridor provides around 2.5 miles of footpaths between the Springfield Estate in the south, and the Oakham Enterprise Park in the north, with work so far having taken place on the canal paths between and around Oakham and Langham.
Earlier this year, work was completed on the Oakham to Langham stretch of the canal. Rutland Melton MP Alicia Kearns unveiled an information board and milepost recognising the hard work of the volunteers who have worked on the project.
The team announced: "Our 2023 guided walks are now available for booking. Walks last approximately 2.5-3 hours and are jam-packed with historical anecdotes and information about the canal. Walks are free, but donations will really help us continue our regeneration of the canal environment (there is an option to donate when you book your tickets)."
Explorers can join these walks on the following dates:
Tue 13 June
Sun 25 June
Tue 11 July
Sun 30 July
Tue 15 August
Sun 27 August
Tue 12 September
Walks will begin at 10am.
Residents can find more information and book online.
The group will also be running a guided walk on 30 May as part of the Rutland Walking and Cycling Festival, set to take place from 20 May - 1 June 2023. Book and find out more online.
