Volunteers have just completed works upon the section of the Oakham Canal known as the 'Fisherman' section.
The Oakham Canal Green Corridor Project team have just finished up their latest round of works on the Oakham Canal on the section commonly known as the 'Fisherman' section.
This path can be found just south of Burley Road near to the Ashwell/Langham roundabout.
These works have been completed ahead of schedule, the canal path reopening 2 days ahead of their expected completion date of 5 March.
The Oakham Canal Green Corridor Project is a registered charity working to preserve and restore the old Oakham Canal in Rutland, UK, in order to "share the economic, environmental, social and leisure opportunities this beautiful waterway offers".
The new Green Corridor will provide around 2.5 miles of footpaths between the Springfield Estate in the south, and the Oakham Enterprise Park in the north, with work so far having taken place on the canal paths between and around Oakham and Langham.
The group hope to continue work onto the Springfield section of the canal and beyond, creating a network of usable paths to enable Rutland residents to enjoy the waterways and rural landscape.
Project Manager, Paul Dadford, said: "In the future, we hope to undertake work on the Springfield canal, as well as realigning the footpath that runs alongside the railway in the fields immediately off of the bypass, redirecting it alongside the canal to correspond with the rest of the paths and work we have done."
