South Street Car Park in Oakham will be closed temporarily for one day on Monday 12 July, while highways resurfacing takes place on nearby sections of South Street.
The first stage of these resurfacing works requires closure of the road from Uppingham Road to the four-way traffic lights at the junctions of Mill Street, Brooke Road and South Street. As this includes a section of the footway running across the entrance to the car park, it will be closed while the work is in progress.
During the second stage, South Street will be closed from the Mill Street, Brooke Road and South Street traffic lights to Penn Street for footway resurfacing along this section and replacement of a drainage gully.
This temporary closure is needed in order to complete these repair works quickly and safely, and is not expected to last all day. There will be marshals on site to assist anyone who needs emergency access to the car park during the time it is closed, or to advise drivers of alternative parking available nearby.
This includes the car park adjacent to the Catmose House offices of Rutland County Council, which will be opened for use by the general public on Monday between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm, with entry and exit via Catmose Street, as a result of South Street car park access being affected by the highways works.

Coun Lucy Stephenson, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at Rutland County Council, said: "The engineers will be working hard to get the resurfacing done quickly, on time and with as little disruption as possible for local people. This essential work has to be carried out in the summer because the warmer temperatures ensure the optimum outcome for the materials used. I'd like to thank Oakham's car park users in advance for their patience while the improvement work takes place in South Street."
